History of Apparatebau Nordhausen GmbH

1830

Ferdinand Weigel founded a coppersmith’s shop in 1830, which soon developed into a mechanical engineering workshop.

The roots of the company lie in Grottkau in Upper Silesia and date back to 1830.

1856

In 1856, the company was relocated to Neisse in order to expand further.

Here the company traded under the name “Metallwarenfabrik von F. Weigel”. Due to the excellent order situation, the company relocated again to Neisse-Friedrichstadt. Copper vessels and tanks, mechanical engineering products of all kinds, dairy and distillery equipment and steam engines could now be produced there.

1886

In 1886, 2 brewing kettles were built for the first time for a small country brewery in Friedland.

From then on, numerous orders were processed for Silesian breweries and the triumphant success of Weigel-Sudwerke began.

1900

In 1900, the limited liability company became a stock corporation.

Thanks to technical innovations implemented by the designers, the company experienced strong technical and economic development until the First World War.

1919

In 1919, the factory adopted the company name “Weigelwerk Aktiengesellschaft”.

In the years that followed, numerous inventions were made in all areas of production at Weigelwerk AG. One of these was the Weigelwerk high-performance wort kettle. With the beginning of the Second World War and the resulting production bans, the previous business came to a complete standstill and the bitter end in Neisse.

1945

On March 16/17, 1945, large parts of the workforce and 14 railroad wagons left Neisse for central Germany.

The successor company to Weigelwerk AG was founded in Nordhausen with the rescued machinery and the specialists who had traveled with them.

1955

In the second half of the 1950s, the company moved to its current location.

The company continued to manufacture brewery and sugar plant equipment as well as steam boilers.

1991

Under the influence of political changes, the company was privatized on 11.12.1991.

The “Apparatebau Nordhausen GmbH” was created. From then on, Apparatebau Nordhausen GmbH was once again able to concentrate on its core business, brewhouse construction, as well as the construction of equipment for fermentation, maturation and storage. Over the following years, the production profile was continuously expanded. Complete brewhouses, CIP systems, heat exchangers, flash pasteurizers, large tanks up to 300 m³, spent grain silos, cylindroconical fermentation tanks, various pharmaceutical tanks and tanks for special applications are now manufactured.

2013

In 2013, the company expanded to include the Ellrich site.

„Plant II” mainly manufactures structural steel products but also vessels made of carbon steels.

2021

In 2021, 2 new shareholders took over Apparatebau Nordhausen GmbH.

With 80 qualified and competent employees, the demanding production is successfully continued with a wide range of products.
